India Cement is the parent company of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited Company, which manages the Chennai Super Kings franchise.
The Chennai Super Kings are led by former captain of Team India, MS Dhoni. This company, which owns MS Dhoni's team, has donated large sums of money through electoral bonds to the Tamil Nadu-based AIDMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam). According to a report in The Hindu, the AIADMK has received Rs 6.05 crore in the name of electoral bonds, most of which have come from Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (India Cement).
Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited donated Rs 5 crore to AIDMK in two days. This amount was given between 2 and 4 April 2019. However, after that, the party did not receive any money from CSK Cricket Limited. According to the information shared with the Election Expenditure Division Secretary of the Election Commission, the party has received funds from Coimbatore-based Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. Rs 1 crore was donated. Also, Rs 5 lakh was received as a donation from Gopal Srinivasan of Chennai. Incidentally, the party had given this information in 2019 and 2023.
Additionally, some significant information about the DMK, which rules Tamil Nadu, is emerging. Via electoral bonds, DMK was given Rs 656.6 crore. DMK claims that Future Gaming and Hotel Services received Rs 509 crore of the Rs 656.6 crore it received through electoral bonds. Thus, this represents more than 77% of the total political donations that the DMK has received. The ED is looking into Santiago Martin, the owner of this business.
