Kia Syros Flex-Fuel Concept Unveiled in India: 1.0-Litre Turbo Engine, Ethanol Compatibility and Launch Details
Kia Syros Flex-Fuel: Kia has introduced the Syros Concept, its first flex-fuel car in India, which can run on both petrol and ethanol.
India is now home to Kia's first ever flex-fuel vehicle, the Syros Concept. The vehicle is fitted with a 1.0-liter direct injection turbo-petrol engine. According to Kia, the Syros Flex-fuel can operate solely on petrol, sole ethanol, as well as combinations of petrol and ethanol. The Indian automaker has yet to announce when it plans to launch the production model in the country.
The Syros Flex-Fuel is built using a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder, direct-injection turbo petrol engine. So far, Kia has yet to reveal the power output of its engine. Modifications to adjust to changing ethanol blends have been made on certain components of the engine such as the ECU, TCU, and fuel system. The standard Syros turbo-petrol comes with a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Maruti was earlier this year the first car brand in India to launch a Flex Fuel Car, the WagonR BioFlex, which costs ₹7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The government is pushing for higher ethanol blending to reduce crude oil imports.
