WhatsApp Agents Feature: Users Can Connect AI Bots to Chats, 5 Agents Allowed on Android Beta
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to connect third-party AI agents and bots directly to their messaging app.
WhatsApp is currently experimenting with the latest functionality that allows the user to connect bots and agents to WhatsApp. This would lead to the opening of a separate window on which the conversation with the connected service takes place within the app itself. It is currently available for some Android users. However, the developers will probably roll out this update to other accounts as well over the next few months.
The WABetaInfo website, which usually reports new features of WhatsApp, found this change in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.35.3. It states that a new 'Agents' tab will appear in the settings of the application, through which the user can configure and add bots to the application. It will be possible to set a name and profile picture for each agent. Furthermore, up to five bots can be configured for one account in WhatsApp.
Once the configuration of the agent has been completed, WhatsApp will provide an API key. After this, the user has to copy it into the platform of the service, hosting a bot. The setup process may vary slightly for different services, and there will also be an option to generate a new key to reset the connection.
