CCI Hosts BRICS Competition Authorities' Meet in Udaipur

Delegates also reviewed recent changes in competition law and policy across their jurisdictions, including major enforcement initiatives, institutional developments, and emerging challenges in domestic markets, the commission said.

The renewable energy study

As part of India's chairship, the CCI led a joint BRICS study, "Emerging Competition Landscape in the Renewable Energy Sector in BRICS," to map shifting competition dynamics in renewable energy markets across member economies and identify areas for future cooperation. Its key findings were presented at the Udaipur meeting.

In her opening address, CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur pointed to the increasingly cross-border nature of digital markets and emerging technologies, and said sustained cooperation among BRICS regulators would be needed to build an effective, future-ready approach to enforcement, the commission said. She added that interventions under competition law should remain principled, evidence-based, and anchored to the law's core objectives amid changing market conditions.

A Rajasthan-hosted series

The Udaipur meeting is among a set of BRICS-track events India has convened in Rajasthan during its presidency. The 10th BRICS Industry Ministers' Meeting concluded in Jaipur earlier in the week, while other working-group meetings have been held across Indian cities. India assumed the BRICS chairship on Jan. 1, 2026, succeeding Brazil, and will chair the bloc for the fourth time.

Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) briefed participants on preparations for the 10th BRICS International Competition Conference, scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2027, the CCI said.

The meeting closed with the heads of BRICS competition authorities reiterating a commitment to continued cooperation, dialogue, and knowledge-sharing to strengthen enforcement in increasingly interconnected markets.
