IndiGo Inducts 33 Women Technicians on Engineering Day, Boosts Diversity in Aviation
IndiGo has inducted the first batch of 33 women technicians on Engineering Day. This step strengthens the policy of diversity and equal opportunity. IndiGo's engineering department maintains the safety of more than 400 aircraft. The company's workforce consists of 44.8% women, including 16.2% women pilots. IndiGo inducted 77 women pilots on 15 August.

The largest airline in India has taken a major step on the occasion of Engineering Day. IndiGo has inducted a whole batch of 33 women technicians for the first time. This step not only strengthens IndiGo's diversity and equal opportunity policy but also reflects the growing role of women in the Indian aviation sector.
IndiGo's engineering department plays an important role in maintaining the safety, quality, and reliability of more than 400 aircraft. The company's technical dispatch reliability level is 99.89%. Recently, the new batch of women technicians completed a week-long induction program.
It included motivational sessions from senior leaders and stories from experienced women engineers, so that the new team could be prepared to take on further responsibility. Women comprise 44.8% of IndiGo's total workforce, and the company has one of the highest numbers of pilots in the world.
Currently, the share of women pilots in IndiGo is 16.2%. On 15 August 2024, on the completion of 77 years of independence, IndiGo inducted 77 women pilots into its airbase and ATR. Out of these, 72 pilots and 5 pilots were deployed in ATR.
The share of women in technical roles in aviation is very low worldwide. In 2021, the number of women in aircraft maintenance was only 3%, which decreased to 2.6% in 2024. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the share of women was 4.5% in 2016, which increased to 5.1% in 2021.
