The southern districts of Tamil Nadu received the highest rainfall in history in the last two days. 10 people lost their lives in this. Normal life has been badly affected. Everywhere is filled with flood water.

According to agency PTI, Chief Secretary Shivdas Meena said on Tuesday that southern districts, especially Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, have experienced record rainfall and floods. Within 30 hours, Kayalpattinam received 1,186 mm of rainfall, while Tiruchendur received 921 mm of rainfall. He said all ten deaths occurred in these two districts. Some lost their lives due to wall collapse while others died due to electric shock.

Meena said that around 1,343 personnel from central and state government agencies including the Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF are engaged in the rescue and relief operations. So far we have set up 160 relief camps. About 17,000 people have been kept in these relief camps. We have still not been able to reach some villages because the water level there has not yet decreased. The Secretary said that nine helicopters have been deployed in relief work and through them, 13,500 kg of food items have been delivered to the stranded people.
