Heavy rains wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu, 10 people died; 17 thousand people forced to live in relief camps
Tamil Nadu Rain: Around 1343 personnel from central and state government agencies including the Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF are engaged in rescue and relief operations. So far, 160 relief camps have been set up by the campaign. About 17000 people have been kept in these relief camps. 13500 kg of food items have been delivered to the stranded people.
The southern districts of Tamil Nadu received the highest rainfall in history in the last two days. 10 people lost their lives in this. Normal life has been badly affected. Everywhere is filled with flood water.
According to agency PTI, Chief Secretary Shivdas Meena said on Tuesday that southern districts, especially Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, have experienced record rainfall and floods. Within 30 hours, Kayalpattinam received 1,186 mm of rainfall, while Tiruchendur received 921 mm of rainfall. He said all ten deaths occurred in these two districts. Some lost their lives due to wall collapse while others died due to electric shock.

We have still not been able to reach some villages because the water level there has not yet decreased. The Secretary said that nine helicopters have been deployed in relief work and through them, 13,500 kg of food items have been delivered to the stranded people.
All 809 railway passengers stranded at Srivaikuntam, which was hit by severe floods near Thoothukudi in southern Tamil Nadu, were rescued on Tuesday. First, they were taken by buses to Vanchi Maniyachchi railway station, from where they were taken to Chennai by a special train. A meeting was held at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday evening under the chairmanship of Governor RN Ravi. The meeting was held to review the current situation and ongoing rescue and relief operations, bring better coordination among agencies and mobilize additional resources for rescue and relief efforts in flood-affected areas.
Central agencies and defense forces participated in it but no representative of the government participated. On the other hand, given the magnitude of the disaster in the state, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday wrote a letter to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh asking for a maximum number of helicopter relief from the Centre. Requested to be deployed in rescue operations.
