Asian Games 2026: Three Iranian Boxers to Train Alongside Indian Team in Patiala
Asian Games 2026: The Iranian team, in addition to the coach, includes Mehdi Kazemi in the 55 kg weight category, Daniyal Shahbakhsh, Iran's first medalist at the 2021 World Championships, in the 60 kg category, and Amiri Esmaili Vandei in the plus 90 kg category.
The war-torn Iranian boxing team will be readying themselves for the Asian Games in India. The three-man Iranian boxing team along with their coach Humayun Amiri will train alongside Indian boxers at NIS Patiala for the Asian Games. A few months back, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had offered to Iran to train with the Indian boxers, but due to the financial problem because of the war, Iran stated that it was unable to travel.
The BFI promised to meet the expenses of travel of the Iranian team. After that, the Iranian team took off from Najaf, Iraq to Mumbai on Monday. The Iranian team will leave Delhi for Patiala on Tuesday. At the same time, both Indian men and women boxers are busy preparing for the Asian Games.
In addition to the coach, the Iranian team includes Mehdi Kazemi in the 55 kg weight category, Iran's first medalist at the 2021 World Championships, Daniyal Shahbakhsh, in the 60 kg category, and Amiri Esmaili Vandei in the plus 90 kg category. SAI is making arrangements for their accommodation at the NIS. The BFI says that along with the Iranian team, our boxers will also be well prepared for the Asian Games. The Iranian team will return on September 9th.
