Delhi Pollution: Government Offers Tax Waiver, Incentives to Replace 2.3 Lakh Trucks and Buses
To reduce air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the central government has launched a plan to phase out old vehicles, with Delhi and Haryana showing rapid progress.
Every year when winters arrive, the pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR area become unbearable. Despite various initiatives failing, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to scrap 2.3 lakh trucks and buses BS-4 and above from the road. These trucks, which are only three percent of the total number of vehicles, account for 36 percent of the air pollution.
Due to the involvement of vehicle owners from Delhi and Haryana, the figures have risen to such an extent that the encouraged ministry has unofficially decided to decrease the deadline from two years to one year in just a month of the initiative being launched. There is a worry about the sluggishness in progress in Uttar Pradesh because without Uttar Pradesh's involvement, it will be impossible to reduce the pollution level in Delhi-NCR.
Parivartan Yojana covers 13 districts of Delhi, 14 districts of Haryana, eight districts of Uttar Pradesh, and two districts of Rajasthan.
