Minister Tan See Leng said that migrant workers have made a significant contribution to the country's progress and will now receive facilities such as sports, cultural programs, and training.
Singapore has announced new plans to improve the living standards of migrant workers. On the occasion of International Migrants Day, the government announced plans to improve healthcare, housing, and sports and recreational facilities for foreign workers. This step has been taken because migrant workers play a vital role in Singapore's billion-dollar development projects.
Human Resources Minister Tan See Leng said that the migrant community has made a significant contribution to Singapore's progress and success. He thanked all migrant workers, including domestic workers, for their contributions to building the country and caring for its people. He said that migrant workers will now receive improved facilities, including sports, recreation, cultural programs, and training programs such as English and digital literacy.
More than 1 million migrant workers work in Singapore, with the majority coming from India, China, and Southeast Asia. These workers are employed in construction, shipyards, and other labor-intensive sectors. The Minister stated that the scheme, launched in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic, has significantly improved housing, health, and recreation.

The Minister also stated that International Migrants Day in 2025 will be part of Singapore's 60th Independence Day (SG60) celebrations. He announced that more clinics will be added to the Primary Health Care Scheme, reducing the distance migrant workers will have to travel for treatment and ensuring faster access. Furthermore, a centralized online portal will be created to help employers enroll their workers in the health scheme. These changes will come into effect from April 2027, when new healthcare agencies will be appointed. The scheme includes services such as treatment for common and chronic illnesses, annual health checkups, telemedicine, and home delivery of medicines.
To promote social cooperation, a joint project will be undertaken next year by the Ministry of Labor and the Migrant Workers Center, with a combination of two programs among the volunteers. The current population of volunteers comprises approximately 2,000 migrant worker volunteers, assisting workers to learn and resolve their issues.
