Mumbai Cricket honors Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji with Lifetime Achievement award

Dilip Vengsarkar, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, captained India in 10 Tests and 18 ODIs and later served as the vice president of the MCA and chairman of the BCCI's selection committee.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Thursday awarded veteran cricketers Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji with the prized Lifetime Achievement award for exceptional contribution to the game. Both Vengsarkar and Edulji contributed heavily to Mumbai and Indian cricket as cricketers and administrators. They were conferred with this honor during a star-studded annual awards night function hosted by the MCA at the Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy and Recreation Centre in BKC, Mumbai, to commemorate the cricketing achievements of the city and to honor the best performers of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

The awards were presented in the presence of Radhakrishnan and Maharashtra government Minister for Information and Cultural Affairs Ashish Shelar MCA President Ajinkya Naik and Apex Council members. One of the standout performers of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Vengsarkar captained India in 10 tests and 18 ODIs and went on to become MCA vice-president and chairman of the BCCI selection panel. Edulji played a trailblazing role in shaping and fostering women's cricket in India and enjoyed a career spanning over 17 years internationally.

Former MCA vice presidents Prof. Ratnakar Shetty and Pravin Barve were also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for their remarkable contribution to cricket administration. MCA President Ajinkya Naik said, “These awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and excellence that define Mumbai cricket. Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji have been true legends and their contribution to both Mumbai and Indian cricket has been phenomenal. Similarly, Prof. Ratnakar Shetty and Pravin Barve have played a vital role in shaping Mumbai’s cricketing legacy. We are proud to honor them with the MCA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. I congratulate all the award winners for their outstanding performance.”

Ajinkya Rahane, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Sayali Satghare, and Sanika Chalke were among the individual award winners. The MCA also celebrated the success of the Ajinkya Rahane-led Ranji Trophy champions and other Mumbai teams for their remarkable performances in domestic tournaments during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. He also presented the Sharad Pawar Scholarship to 15 young exceptional players, thereby giving a boost to their cricketing dreams and encouraging them to make their mark in the world of cricket.
