This chaos affected over 300,000 passengers. Strict action has also been taken against the management.
IndiGo Airlines is facing a lot of inconveniences for its thousands of passengers in December 2025. A penalty of ₹22.20 crores is imposed on IndiGo Airlines, along with severe enforcement action against its senior managers by the DGCA.
This comes after an investigation revealed there was serious negligence on the side of IndiGo after a huge number of flights were canceled and passengers were left stranded at airports across the country in early December. More than 300,000 passengers were left stranded at airports across the country because of the high number of canceled flights. The DGCA investigation was carried out by a four-member committee formed by a directive from MoCA.
It has been found that between December 3 and 5, 2025, IndiGo cancelled a total of 2,507 flights and delayed 1,852 flights. During this period, the situation at many major airports across the country deteriorated, leaving passengers waiting for hours.

According to the committee, this was not solely due to weather or external factors, but rather to significant lapses in the airline's internal planning and operations. The DGCA considered the three-day disruption a major operational failure.
The investigation committee stated in its report that over-optimizing operations became a major problem at IndiGo. In addition, a lack of regulatory preparedness, weak software systems, and lapses in management oversight were also revealed.
According to the DGCA, these factors combined to severely impact flight operations in December, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. In light of these serious shortcomings, the regulator has not only imposed fines but also taken strict action against management.
