The Karnataka unit of Congress has decided to hold a statewide protest on Monday against Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's permission to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) plot allotment scam. Gehlot had given permission to prosecute Siddaramaiah on Saturday.

The Chief Minister has denied the allegations and said that he will fight it legally. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President DK Shivakumar said on Sunday that rallies will be organized in all district headquarters across the state. All party leaders and workers will participate in it.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for a meeting of Congress Legislature Party on August 22. Sources say the chief minister will apprise the Congress MLAs of the facts and work out a strategy for fighting the case legally and politically. Karnataka Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge told reporters that since there is a lot of uproar over the role of the Governor, we need to make our people aware of the matter.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, is going to file an appeal petition in the High Court on Monday, opposing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's permission to prosecute him in the MUDA scam. Sources said senior Supreme Court lawyers Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal would come to Bengaluru on Monday and file a petition on behalf of Siddaramaiah challenging the order of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
