Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 Begins Today as Virat Kohli Makes Comeback After 15 Years

The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 is scheduled to commence from today. Many key players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Shami, and Rishabh Pant, will be participating in this competition. Virat Kohli is returning to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after a long gap of approximately 15 years. He will be representing Delhi, with Rishabh Pant leading the Delhi side.

The first encounter of the Delhi side is scheduled to take place against the Andhra Pradesh side at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Kohli’s last appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was in the year 2010. He has played a total of 17 matches so far with the Delhi side. Kohli has scored a total of 910 runs with an average of 60.66 and the highest score of 124. He has achieved four half-centuries and four centuries out of the matches he has played so far.

Virat Kohli is just one run away from completing 16,000 runs in List A cricket. If he achieves this, he will become only the second Indian batsman after legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to achieve this feat. So far, Virat has scored 15,999 runs in 342 List A matches at an impressive average of 57.34. He has 57 centuries and 84 half-centuries in the domestic 50-over format.

It is worth noting that after the Karnataka Police denied permission for Vijay Hazare Trophy matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium due to crowd and security concerns, all matches scheduled to be held at this venue have been shifted to the BCCI Centre of Excellence. An official of the Delhi and District Cricket Association said, "All matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy scheduled to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will now be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. This decision has been taken due to security reasons."

The official said, "Both teams participating in the first match have been informed. Their pre-match training sessions will now be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence." The first match was scheduled to be held between Delhi and Andhra Pradesh at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on December 24.
