India vs New Zealand 1st ODI: Remembering India's 2022 Defeat at Auckland as Bowlers Face Another Test

Ignoring the weak performance of the bowlers of Team India in the T20 series, Team India will play to improve their performance in the ODI series. Despite winning the T20 series with a scoreline of 3-2, Team India's bowlers performed weakly in the T20 series. The first match of the ODI series will take place in Auckland, the same venue where the last match between the two teams took place in 2022. Even there, India lost owing to weak bowling performance.

India came to New Zealand in 2022 for an ODI series consisting of three matches. The first match of the series took place in Auckland. In the match, India scored 306 runs after losing 7 wickets in 50 overs. But New Zealand won the match by scoring 309 runs with 17 balls remaining.

Team New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first. Under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan, Team India started the match quite well. Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan put on an opening partnership of 124 runs. Both the openers got out at this score. Shikhar Dhawan scored 72 runs while Shubman Gill scored 50 runs.

Shreyas Iyer then came in and smashed 80 runs in 76 balls, including four sixes and four fours. However, Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 15 and Suryakumar Yadav for 4. Sanju Samson then scored 36, and Washington Sundar then scored a quickfire 37 off 16 balls to take India past 300. For New Zealand, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took three wickets each, while Adam Milne also got a wicket.

Chasing a target of 307, New Zealand got off to a poor start, losing three wickets for just 88 runs. Finn Allen was dismissed for 22, Devon Conway for 24, and Daryl Mitchell for 11. However, captain Kane Williamson's 94 and Tom Latham's unbeaten 145 secured victory for India. Arshdeep Singh, who also played in that match, conceded 68 runs in 8.1 overs, while Umran Malik conceded 66 runs in 10 overs, and Yuzvendra Chahal conceded 67 runs in 10 overs. Shardul Thakur also conceded 63 runs in 9 overs, taking only one wicket. India remained wicketless after 20 overs in that match. Because of this the Indian team had to face defeat.
