The Numbers at a Glance
According to JKBOSE officials, “Of these, 72,232 students have registered in the Kashmir division and 25,268 in the winter-zone areas of the Jammu division. The Board has set up 1,003 examination centres, including 687 in the Kashmir division and 316 in the winter-zone areas of Jammu division.”
JKBOSE chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, who visited some examination centres, said the exams are being held across 10 districts of the Kashmir division and seven districts of the Jammu division, with a few students also appearing in Leh and Kargil.
Special Support for Students With Disabilities
The chairman said a dedicated examination centre has been set up at the Board’s office for eligible candidates with special needs. These students are being given 20 minutes of extra time, scribes depending on the nature of their disability, and a five-mark concession in the passing criteria.
“We try our best to facilitate them and to make their academic dreams come true,” he said. He added that the Board had planned arrangements in advance and held discussions with officers, joint secretaries and deputy secretaries to ensure smooth conduct of exams.
Minister’s Message: Stay Calm, Manage Time
Education Minister Sakina Itoo extended her best wishes to students appearing in the Class 10, 11 and 12 exams. She said JKBOSE had completed all necessary preparations and urged students to stay confident, manage their time wisely and approach the exams with a calm and positive mindset.
Focus on Stress and Transparency
Commissioner/Secretary, School Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma also wished students well. He asked Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and Complex Heads to create a supportive environment and provide counselling and help to students facing exam stress.
To ensure transparency, JKBOSE has constituted a Grievance cum Monitoring Cell to address exam-related complaints on time.
Key Exam Dates
Class 10: October 19 to November 18
Class 12: October 21 to November 21
Why It Matters
Class 10 is the first major board exam in a student’s life and often shapes the choice of stream in higher classes. In the Valley and the winter-zone areas, the exams are held before the harsh winter sets in, which makes timely and smooth conduct especially important. The special provisions for students with disabilities also reflect a growing focus on inclusive education.
The Bigger Picture
With nearly one lakh students in Class 10 alone, and Class 11 and 12 exams running alongside, the coming weeks will test JKBOSE’s planning, from centre management to grievance handling. The emphasis on counselling shows that student well-being is now being treated as seriously as exam logistics.
What Comes Next
The Class 12 exams begin on Wednesday, October 21. Students are advised to keep track of official JKBOSE notices for any updates.
