US Confirms Weapons in Space for First Time: Troy Meink Reveals On-Orbit Space Control Capabilities
The US has deployed offensive weapons in space, which can be used to disrupt or destroy enemy space systems.
After gaining dominance over land, air, and water, America is now making efforts to extend its military dominance in space too. The US Air Force Secretary Troy Meineck admitted for the first time that the United States has put offensive capabilities in space orbit which could be used to interfere, degrade, and if required, to destroy enemy's space systems. But he did not disclose any information regarding the capabilities of the weapon.
As per the news media, in the Air, Space, and Cyber Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, Meineck stated that ‘on-orbit’ weapons are needed to safeguard the US forces from enemy forces.
He was apparently talking about the increasing space military capabilities of Russia and China. As per US Space Force, these could be used for both attack and defense purposes. These also included those systems which could disrupt the functioning of the satellite without damaging it.
