This year's message comes at a different moment for the family. It is the first Daughter's Day since Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at his Juhu residence in Mumbai, at the age of 89.

Her words about her daughters echo what she wrote in the weeks after his death. On what would have been his 90th birthday on December 8, Hema Malini thanked God "for our two beautiful girls who reaffirm our love for each other", in a post reflecting on their life together.

Esha and Ahana have stood by their mother through this period. In December, Hema Malini hosted a prayer meet for Dharmendra in Delhi, accompanied by both daughters, who joined her in paying tribute.

Seen in that light, her description of her daughters as "pillars of strength and support to your families" reads as both a general message and a personal one.

Hema Malini and Dharmendra's Journey

Hema Malini and Dharmendra fell in love while working together in several Hindi films during the 1970s. They married in 1980, when Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur, with whom he had four children.

The two became one of Bollywood's most beloved on-screen pairs, appearing together in films such as Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Dream Girl and Raja Jani.

Their first daughter, Esha, was born in 1981, followed by Ahana in 1985.
