Telegram Banned in India Until June 22 Ahead of NEET UG Re-Exam, Government Cites Exam Integrity
The Central Government has temporarily banned Telegram until June 22, 2026, in view of the NEET (UG) re-examination. This decision was taken under Section 69A of the IT Act.
The Central Government has made a crucial decision and put a ban on Telegram due to the NEET (UG) re-test examination which is due to take place on June 21. The Government has put a ban on Telegram till June 22.
The National Testing Agency stated, "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a directive under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Under this directive, access to the Telegram platform in India has been restricted for a fixed and limited period (until June 22, 2026). This period includes the day of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination and the period immediately thereafter."
The agency further stated, "The directive requires the platform to disable the message-editing feature for messages already posted in India by a specified time (June 30, 2026). This action was taken in response to a specific feature that has been used to fabricate evidence of a paper leak after an incident related to national examinations."
