Pune Metro Pink Line: Women-Run Hinjewadi Link Opens

For years, the trip between Hinjewadi and central Pune has been one of the city's most dreaded daily routines. Thousands of IT professionals spend hours in traffic on the way to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park area and back. That may start to change on Tuesday, November 3, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Pune Metro Line 3, better known as the Pink Line.

The 23-km corridor, built at a cost of over Rs 8,300 crore, runs from Maan to the District Court Metro station. It gives Hinjewadi, Pune's best-known IT hub, its first direct Metro link to Shivajinagar. The Prime Minister will open the line by video conference at 12:30 p.m. and address the gathering.

On the eve of the launch, PM Modi listed what sets the line apart in a post on X: "What makes Pune Metro's new Pink Line so special? 23 km connecting Hinjewadi's IT hub with Shivajinagar. Operated by women. Almost a third of the electricity needs planned from solar energy. Tomorrow, this Rs 8,300 crore infra enhancement will be inaugurated! A significant boost to 'Ease of Living' for Pune!"
