Bihar Announces Rs 4 Lakh Aid for Ashok Dham Stampede Victims

Patna, August 17 — The Bihar government on Monday announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the stampede at the Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai.

At least seven people were killed and more than 12 injured in the incident. The stampede triggered chaos at the temple premises as a large number of devotees had gathered to offer prayers and perform rituals on the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan.

An electric wire reportedly fell, triggering panic among the crowd. Rumours then spread among the devotees, causing further alarm. Many rushed in different directions in an attempt to escape. A stampede ensued, leaving several devotees trapped and crushed.
