Italian Ambassador told the importance of India, said- IMEC project is not possible without New Delhi

India is extremely crucial for the ambitious IMEC initiative connecting India to Europe. That's what Italy's Ambassador to India Francesco Tallo has to say. Tallo said that India is a big market and producer country. He also said that the IMEC project is about trade, energy and data connectivity and India is a major player in all three sectors.

The India-West Asia-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC Project) will link India, Saudi Arabia and Europe with a vast network of roads, rails and shipping lanes. The project is designed to facilitate integration between Asia, West Asia and the West. The project was decided upon during the G20 summit in Delhi in September 2023. In an interview to PTI, Italian Ambassador Francesco Tallo said that this ambitious project was started with a lot of expectations. Such a project is especially needed amid the instability and uncertainty created by global security challenges.

Tallo said that 'India is definitely important, because it is a huge market. It is a big producer country. So, from both aspects, it is very important. This project is related to trade, and exchange of goods, as well as energy and data. And India is a leader in all three of these areas. So, of course, India is important. Tallo said that there is a cable (project) called Blue Raman, which will connect Mumbai to the Italian port of Genoa in the Mediterranean Sea, and then from Genoa to the whole of Europe. This is important because data is practically the fuel of the 21st century.

He also emphasized the important role of digital connectivity in addition to physical connectivity, which will help empower data centers and provide more possibilities and strength to our artificial intelligence, our technologies and the overall economy.
