Preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 have started. A roadmap is being prepared for the auction of players for the next season of this mega tournament and this auction will be held in Dubai on 19th December. The trading window is currently open before the auction and swapping of players is going on between IPL franchises. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni has released the list of its retained and released players.

Chennai has released eight players Ben Stokes, Dwayne Pretorius, Ambati Rayudu, and Kyle Jamieson. Many players like experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane, Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, and Shivam Dubey have been retained. The deadline to retain players for IPL 2024 was 5 pm on Sunday.

England Test captain Stokes opted out of IPL 2024 due to managing his workload and fitness. Injury limited his IPL 2023 participation to just two matches after he was bought by the franchise for Rs 16.25 crore. Former South African all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius did not get many chances in Chennai's victorious IPL 2023 season.

Rayudu retired from the IPL after Chennai defeated Gujarat Titans. Whereas, Jamieson was unavailable for the 2023 season due to a back injury. Other players released by Chennai include South African fast bowler Sisanda Magala, who struggled with injuries in IPL 2023. As well as Bhagat Verma, Subhranshu Senapati, and Akash Singh, who played a few matches for the franchise in their last IPL season.

Chennai now has a purse of Rs 32.1 crore and has six spots left in their squad, three of which are foreigners. Now their aim is to fill this slot with strong players in the IPL mini-auction to be held in Dubai on 19th December.
