The Indian Coast Guard has carried out an important operation in the Bay of Bengal. The team has apprehended a Bangladeshi vessel that was illegally fishing in Indian waters. 28 people on board the vessel have been detained.
The Coast Guard ship 'ICGS Amrit Kaur' was on patrol in the northern Bay of Bengal on Sunday when the team spotted the suspicious activity. The investigation found that the Bangladeshi vessel was fishing without permission in the EEZ of India. This was done under the 1981 law on foreign vessels.
The Coast Guard intercepted the boat and asked for the necessary documents from the people on board, but the people were not able to produce any valid licenses. The nets and fish found on the boat indicated that active fishing was taking place in a restricted area. The Coast Guard detained the boat and all 28 crew members and transported them to Fraserganj Port for further legal action.
