He managed to break the record that was previously held by Pedro Collins of West Indies.

Pedro Collins took 106 wickets in 32 matches for West Indies. His last match for West Indies was played against India in 2006 while his first match was played against Australia in 1999. Mitchell Starc broke his record by taking a wicket off the first ball against Bangladesh.

In addition, Starc dismissed half of Bangladesh's team in just 22 balls in this match. He first dismissed Shadman Islam, followed by Tanjid Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, and Liton Das. Bangladesh's score was just 12 runs at that time. Previously, Starc had completed a five-wicket haul in just 15 balls against the West Indies. By achieving this feat in 22 balls in the Mackay Test, Starc showed the world how dangerous Australia can become after a defeat.
