The Second World Humanoid Robot Games (Robot Olympics) kicked off Saturday in Beijing, China's capital city. Over 2,000 humanoid robots, representing more than 650 teams from 16 countries, are taking part in this five-day competition. These Humanoid Olympics will involve a number of sporting events ranging from robot races, football, table tennis, athletics, kickboxing and industrial games.

Among the events held during the first day are the 400 meters and 1500 meters races in the fully autonomous category, where the robots run without any remote control. As reported by We Are China, in the opening ceremony, the robots walked in a coordinated manner like a military parade. In addition, a humanoid Chinese robot known as Galbot made a lawn tennis diving move which stunned everyone watching the ceremony.

The Robot Olympics are being held at the National Speed Skating Oval (Ice Ribbon) in Beijing. The spectacle of robots competing against each other has gone viral on social media, and the opening ceremony, similar to that of human games, took place on the first day. According to China's leading newspaper, the Global Times, a large crowd gathered at the Unitree Technologies stand to watch a live boxing match between two humanoid robots.
