HYDERABAD — Two fatal industrial disasters struck manufacturing facilities in Telangana and Jharkhand overnight, leaving five people dead and multiple workers critically injured. Authorities in both states have launched formal technical investigations into equipment maintenance and safety protocol compliance.
In Telangana, a high-intensity chemical reactor explosion triggered a major fire late Friday at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility operated by Hazelo Lab Private Limited, located near Dothigudem village in Pochampally mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district.
Reactor Failure During Shift Transition
The explosion occurred during a routine late-night shift change, causing structural damage to the primary process block and trapping nearby operational staff. Emergency response teams, including municipal fire tenders, state police personnel, and disaster management units, arrived at the site shortly after receiving the emergency report to initiate search and containment operations.
"A tragic industrial accident occurred late on Friday night at Hazelo Lab Private Limited," a senior district police official confirmed. "A reactor explosion resulted in the deaths of two employees and left several others injured."
Emergency personnel extracted trapped workers from the damaged facility and transferred the injured to nearby medical centers for treatment. Attending medical staff declared two employees dead on arrival.
Firefighters contained the resulting chemical fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent solvent storage tanks within the industrial complex. Police authorities have registered a case and initiated an inspection to determine whether pressure relief systems or cooling mechanisms failed, leading to the thermal runaway.
Fatal Power Plant Overheating in Jharkhand
In a separate industrial accident on Friday night, a blast at a sponge-iron manufacturing plant in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district killed three process engineers and injured another worker.
The incident occurred at the captive power generation unit of Maa Chhinnamastika Cement and Ispat Private Limited, situated in Hehal under the Patratu block. According to plant personnel and local emergency responders, a sudden mechanical failure and high-temperature blowout during night-shift operations filled the power generation station with dense smoke and intense heat, trapping technical staff inside.
First responders and local police brought the fire under control and retrieved the trapped engineers from the power plant site. Medical staff subsequently confirmed three fatalities, while the surviving injured employee remains hospitalized.
Preliminary statements from factory management suggest that severe system overheating in the power plant machinery likely caused the structural failure and blast. District officials and safety inspectors have initiated a technical assessment to review operational logs and determine whether mechanical fail-safes met state industrial safety standards.
