IMD Forecasts Rain, Gusty Winds Across Tamil Nadu
The IMD has forecast rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds over parts of Tamil Nadu on Sunday and advised fishermen to stay off West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra coasts as a low-pressure area forms over the Bay of Bengal.
Chennai: Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on Sunday, even as a fresh low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai had earlier identified a feeble trough in the lower atmospheric levels off the Tamil Nadu coast. The system is expected to bring moderate rainfall to the Western Ghats districts and several northern and coastal districts of the state.
On Sunday, moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts. Similar conditions have been forecast for Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Cuddalore districts, as well as neighbouring Puducherry. One or two places in the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and the Karaikal region are also likely to see light rain with thunderstorms.
