Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on three-day visit to Sri Lanka, will address NAAM 200 program

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will leave for a three-day visit to Sri Lanka on Wednesday. During the visit, Sitharaman will be speaking as the guest of honor at 'NAAM 200' organized by the Government of Sri Lanka at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Indian Origin Tamils (IOTs) in Sri Lanka.

According to a Finance Ministry press release, other invitees from Indian political parties and a representative of the Malaysian Tamil Congress will participate in the event. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene, Sri Lankan Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman, senior leaders of political parties, and several other dignitaries will participate in "NAAM 200".

Sitharaman will hold meetings with Ranilwickramasinghe and Dinesh Gunawardene during her three-day visit to Sri Lanka. According to a Finance Ministry press release, she will witness the exchange of MoU for solar electrification of religious places in Sri Lanka.

"The Union Finance Minister will witness the exchange of MoU for solar electrification of religious places in Sri Lanka, in which India will allocate Rs 82.40 crore out of the Government of India's grant-in-aid of Rs 107.47 crore," the Finance Ministry said. Crores of rupees have been earmarked to promote Buddhist relations."

Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate SBI branches in Trincomalee and Jaffna on November 2 and 3. During her visit, she will visit Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) in Kandy, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Trincomalee and Thirukoneshwaram Temple in Nallur.

According to the Finance Ministry, the Union Finance Minister is scheduled to visit the Lanka IOC Oil Tank Farm, Jaffna Cultural Center, and Jaffna Public Library.

Earlier in October, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had visited Sri Lanka. During his visit, Jaishankar participated in the 23rd Council of Ministers (CoM) meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) hosted by Sri Lanka. During his visit, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the President's Secretariat.
