Elon Musk's satellite internet service Starlink has formally accepted the security and data storage standards set by the government to provide service in India. According to a report, Starlink plans to launch its services in India, where satellite spectrum is likely to be allocated administratively. In this field, Starlink will compete with companies like Reliance JioSpaceFiber, Airtel, and Amazon Kuiper, who are preparing to launch their satellite internet services in India.

According to a report by Financial Express, Starlink has accepted the requirements such as local data storage and government data interception set by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). All these conditions are mandatory for any satellite internet service provider to be fulfilled before getting a license in India.

The report also said that Starlink had sought a temporary relaxation in some conditions, but the government refused to give any special concessions to foreign companies. At present, the Department of Telecommunications has not allowed any foreign satellite service provider to operate in India.

In case Starlink launches in India, it is bound to face tough competition from Airtel and Reliance Jio. As a matter of fact, these companies are also almost ready with their satellite internet services to be launched in India soon. In this process, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is soon going to allocate spectrum to these companies.

It had also disagreed with Jio over TRAI's plan for spectrum allocation. Jio, owned by Mukesh Ambani, had demanded that the regulator auction the spectrum while Starlink wanted it to be administratively allocated. Experts knowledgeable about the matter say an auction of the spectrum will make it tough for global sitcom providers to enter India.
