Google Confirms Google Assistant Phaseout; Gemini Becomes Default AI Assistant
If you're still using Google Assistant on your Android phone, you'll soon see a major change. Starting next month, Google will begin phasing it out and replacing it with Gemini. Returning to the old assistant will be impossible after this change.
Google Assistant, an integral part of Android devices for nearly a decade now, is being phased out by Google. Google had indicated last year that it intends to phase out the Google Assistant in favor of its new artificial intelligence assistant called Gemini. This process has finally been initiated.
Several users in Reddit and X claim that Google has started sending email notifications regarding this matter. As per Google, the Google Assistant will soon be phased out on all Android phones starting September 4. The process will not happen at once, but will happen gradually within a few weeks for all eligible devices.
However, there will be one notable thing about this phaseout. Once the switch to Gemini happens, it will not be possible for anyone to switch back to Google Assistant anymore. This restriction will not only apply to phones but also to tablets, paired devices, and other eligible devices.
