Apple will make all iPhones sold from America in India from next year due to tariff war

The increasing trade tension between America and China will turn out to be a great chance for India. Various large tech firms of the world are considering shifting their production from China to India. As per a news report, the tech giant Apple is planning to produce all the iPhones available for sale in America from the start of next year. Not only will it give a boost to Make in India, but also position India to become more of a global manufacturing center.

The report states that amid US-China trade disputes, numerous companies, among which is Apple, are racing to diversify their supply chain. Apple aims to entirely transfer the production of over 60 million iPhones that are sold in the US to the Indian facility by 2026. This is Apple's largest manufacturing transition in decades, according to its new investment plans for India.

Apple has increased its production in India through partnerships with Tata Electronics and Foxconn. Foxconn is manufacturing iPhones in India by importing equipment from China. Recent data from market intelligence firm IDC shows that more than 3 million iPhones made in India were exported in the first three months of 2025. Foxconn exported iPhones worth $1.31 billion in March. This also included models like iPhone 13, 14, 16, and 16E.

Apple plans to double its Indian production and increase retail sales by opening four new stores in Bangalore, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. Along with this, the company is going to recruit hundreds for roles in manufacturing and retail. Apple employs over 3,000 people in India.

Apple is not the only tech company eyeing India, the report said. Samsung is considering shifting its smartphone production to India after a 46 per cent tariff on goods imported from Vietnam. Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc. is also in talks with manufacturing partners such as Dixon Technologies and Foxconn to shift production of its Pixel smartphones from Vietnam to India.

Apple currently relies heavily on Chinese assembly through partners such as Foxconn. But rising tariffs (over 100 per cent on some Chinese imports) imposed by US President Donald Trump have made production in China too expensive. While smartphones have received a temporary exemption from high tariffs, a 20 per cent duty on Chinese-made devices sold in the US still applies.
