Abhishek Sharma Smashes 45 Consecutive Sixes Ahead of Vijay Hazare Trophy Clash
Abhishek Sharma smashes 45 sixes: India's T20 star opener Abhishek Sharma is now aiming for a place in the ODI team. With this hope, he is ready to make waves in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. A glimpse of this was seen during Punjab's training session when he smashed 45 back-to-back sixes and also bowled for nearly 40 minutes.
India's most prominent opening batsman in T20 Internationals, Abhishek Sharma, is likely to take the field for Punjab against Uttarakhand in the match scheduled under Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 on Monday, December 29, at the Anantham Ground, Jaipur. He has also been putting extra effort into preparation. This was evident in the practice session held by the Punjab outfit on Sunday when he hit 45 consecutive sixes. Abhishek, already an accomplished player in the shortest form of cricket, is now ready to make an impact at an international level in the 50-over format. He has yet to make his ODI debut for India. This presents him with a golden opportunity to showcase his abilities and strengthen his case for selection in domestic tournaments.
According to media reports, during Punjab's training session on Sunday, when Abhishek Sharma came out to bat, he asked his teammate Gaurav Chaudhary a question that revealed his mindset, reflecting both his intentions and his creative approach at the crease.
He asked, "What's the field?" (Referring to a hypothetical field placement), and the tall off-spinner Chaudhary replied, "Mid-off is kept to save singles." Abhishek then batted for about an hour, though this is a daily routine for him: hitting big shots and not defending balls. According to reports, he hit approximately 45 sixes back-to-back at the Anantham Cricket Ground.

During this period, Abhishek faced not only off-spinners but also leg-spinners and left-arm orthodox bowlers. The pitch was grippy, offering plenty of turn for those bowling at the right length. After batting, he also bowled left-arm spin for about 40 minutes.
It should be noted that Abhishek Sharma is included in India's squad for the T20 International series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the ODI squad. If Abhishek performs well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it could give the selectors something to think about.
However, this is quite difficult, as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have solid opening spots. Yashasvi Jaiswal, playing in place of the injured Gill, recently strengthened his claim as the third opener by scoring a century against South Africa.
