Indian Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill has suffered a serious nerve injury in the neck, which will keep him out of action for a very long time. According to a report by Sports Tak, Gill is now ruled out of the ongoing Test series against South Africa and subsequently the three ODIs and five T20Is that follow it. In other words, he will miss all remaining international matches in 2025.
While batting during the first innings of the first Test in Kolkata against South Africa, Gill suddenly felt pain in his neck. Later, he could not field in South Africa's second innings and could not bat during India's second innings while chasing a target of 124 runs. He was taken to a hospital in Kolkata after the second day's play, where he was discharged the next day after preliminary evaluation.
After being ruled out of the second Test in Guwahati, Gill was sent to Mumbai for further evaluation. A spinal injury specialist examined him there and confirmed a nerve injury. He is currently receiving injections. His rehabilitation program will begin in a few days. The BCCI and team management are reluctant to take any risks, as the T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in India in February 2026.
