Power consumption is continuously increasing in the country, electricity consumption increased by more than 8% in November

There has been a continuous increase in electricity consumption in the country. Electricity consumption data is sent every month by the government. According to the latest data released by the government, there has been an increase of about 8 percent in electricity consumption in November. The reason behind this is the economic activities along with the festive season.

According to government data, power consumption in the year-ago period stood at 110.25 billion units, higher than the 99.32 billion units recorded in November 2021.

Peak electricity demand met – the highest supply in a day – rose to 204.60 GW in November. The maximum power supply was 187.34 GW in November 2022 and 166.10 GW in November 2021.

The Power Ministry had estimated that the country's electricity demand would reach 229 GW during summer. Due to unseasonal rains, the demand in April-July did not reach the expected level. However, maximum supply touched a new high of 224.1 GW in June but fell to 209.03 GW in July. Maximum demand reached 238.19 GW in August. In September this year, it was 240.17 GW. The maximum demand in October 2023 was 222.16 GW.

Industry experts said power consumption was affected in March, April, May, and June this year due to widespread rainfall. He said electricity consumption increased in August, September, and October, mainly due to the wet season and increased industrial activities before the festival season. He said the 8.5 percent increase in electricity consumption in November reflects the impact of festivities and better economic activity.

There were many festivals last month. Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiya Dooj, and Dev Diwali were the festivals in November.

Experts are expecting a steady increase in power consumption growth in the coming months due to improvements in economic activity.
