Monsoon Havoc: 300+ Dead in North India, IMD Issues Fresh Alerts

Monsoon has also become active in UP. People are expected to get relief from the humid heat. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in 22 districts of UP today. There is a possibility of torrential rain and thunderstorms in Moradabad, Amroha, Sambhal, Bijnor, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Gonda, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Ballia, Mau, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ayodhya and Ambedkar Nagar. The department has predicted the continuation of rain and thunderstorm for the next three to four days.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Khargone, Barwani, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh. A yellow alert has been issued for this. The department has issued a possibility of thunderstorm and rain in more than 24 districts. Also, people have been asked to be cautious.

The Meteorological Center Dehradun has predicted light to moderate rain in most parts of Dehradun, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Nainital districts today. The department has issued a yellow alert for all three districts today. Today, on Saturday morning, an incident of cloudburst has also been reported in Dehradun.

The weather is expected to remain pleasant in Delhi today. At the same time, IMD has expressed the possibility of rain in the northeastern states. The department said that there may be rain in some parts of Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Arunachal.

After heavy rains in Rajasthan, the phase of withdrawal of monsoon has started from September 15. On October 15, the monsoon will return completely via Karnataka. This year the monsoon reached Kerala on May 24, which was the first time since 2009. During this monsoon season, 836.2 mm of rain was recorded as against the normal rainfall of 778.6 mm. This is 7 percent more than the normal rainfall. At the same time, in North West India, 34 percent more rain i.e. 720.4 percent rain was recorded as against the normal rainfall (538.1 mm).

Central India received 978.3 mm of rain, which is 11 per cent more than the normal of 882 mm, while southern India received 7 per cent more than the normal of 611 mm, however, northeastern India received less than normal rainfall this year. Eastern and northeast India recorded 949.6 mm of rain, which is 20 per cent less than the normal of 1192.6 mm.
