ISRO Successfully Completes Three Critical Gaganyaan Crew Module Tests to Enhance Astronaut Safety
ISRO has successfully completed three critical tests of the Gaganyaan Crew Module System. These tests were conducted to ensure the safety of astronauts and the safe return of the module.
Three significant tests of the Gaganyaan Crew Module System have been completed by ISRO. Such tests are necessary to assure the safety of astronauts and to provide the safety of returning crew module. The first test was conducted in order to ascertain that the crew module would maintain its vertical position after splashdown.
On Sunday, ISRO confirmed that the cold-gas-based Crew Module Uprighting System (CMUS) was developed and tested. The second test ascertained the separation of the umbilical mechanism between the crew module and service module. Umbilical mechanism has two components: one is located in the crew module and another is located in the service module.
During the re-entry of the crew module into the Earth’s atmosphere, the service module separates from the crew module after the separation of CSU-1. Right before the re-entry into the atmosphere, CSU-2 also separates from the crew module. The test simulated this separation process.
