MSK Prasad Backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for 2027 World Cup After India’s Sydney Triumph
Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad has supported Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's participation in the 2027 World Cup. He stated that this experienced pair will prove to be crucial for India in the World Cup.
After India's victory in the Sydney ODI against Australia, discussions have begun in the cricketing world about what India's team will look like for the 2027 World Cup. Meanwhile, former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad expressed confidence in the continued importance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the Indian team, stating that this experienced pair will prove crucial for the team in the 2027 World Cup. It is worth noting that both veteran batsmen gave their all in Sydney, delivering a brilliant performance in the third ODI against Australia, leading India to a 9-wicket victory and avoiding a clean sweep in the series.
Rohit Sharma followed up his impressive performance in Adelaide with another brilliant unbeaten 121 in Sydney, scoring his 33rd ODI century. The former Indian captain now ranks third on the all-time list of centuries in the format, behind Kohli (51) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). Meanwhile, Kohli, who was dismissed for consecutive ducks in the first two ODIs, bounced back with an unbeaten 74. With his unbeaten 74, Kohli surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket history.
Former chief selector Prasad said, "I'm extremely happy. I was eagerly awaiting their performance in the last two matches. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, but I'm thrilled it finally happened, and it's very important. As you head towards the World Cup, you need their services. People like Virat and Rohit Sharma will be huge assets to the team."
He added, "I don't think people judge them based on their current form." What they've done before is also very important. Rohit is now fully fit, and Virat is as fit as ever. So, it's very difficult to judge these players. They have 84 centuries to their name, and if you want to judge them, it would be surprising to me.
Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from T20 International and Test cricket. Prasad said that Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja did a good thing: after winning the T20 World Cup, they handed over the reins to the next generation. This is wonderful, and these players have finally started to flourish and establish themselves. Our team is very good.
