The Supreme Court will hear today the petition of the Gandhi family and AAP in the Income Tax Assessment case. Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, AAP, and several charitable trusts have challenged the transfer of income tax assessment from faceless to central income tax circles.
During the earlier hearing, Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice SNV. Bhatti's bench had adjourned the hearing till November 28.
Referring to the petitions filed by Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka against the transfers on October 3, the Supreme Court had said that if there are cross-transactions between individuals then a central assessment may be required.
Arvind Datar, the lawyer for the Gandhi family and the trusts associated with them, had told the court that due to the searches in the fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari case, the Income Tax authorities have tagged all these as supplementary cases because of Priyanka Gandhi's husband Robert Vadra. The Gandhi family says they have nothing to do with the affairs of the Bhandari Group and there have been no searches or seizures in their cases.
