Change in RTI application process, e-mail OTP verification will be mandatory from June 16
RTI Update: The government has taken a big step, keeping in mind cyber security and privacy of user data on the RTI portal. OTP will be made mandatory under e-mail verification for RTI application from June 16, 2025.

The central government has taken a new step to make the RTI application process more secure and transparent. Now from June 16, 2025, the OTP system will be implemented under e-mail verification in all online applications of Right to Information (RTI). This decision has been taken to strengthen the cybersecurity of the RTI portal operated under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Now, when RTI applicants apply through the www.rtionline.gov.in portal, they will have to verify with the OTP sent to their email ID. Without this, the application process will not be considered complete. This process will improve data privacy and security.
The government statement states that this new system will keep the personal information of citizens more secure and prevent any kind of cybersecurity lapse on the portal. The RTI portal is used not only for filing applications, but also for knowing the status of petitions and filing appeals.
According to the information published on the website, "With the aim of enhancing the privacy and data security of citizens, and strengthening the cybersecurity framework of the portal, OTP is being implemented under e-mail verification for all RTI requests from June 16, 2025."
It is worth noting that the RTI online portal provides the right to citizens across the country to obtain information from government departments under transparency. Now, with the new system, this process is considered to be more secure.
