Sarfaraz Khan Smashes 157 off 75 in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Powers Mumbai to Big Win
R Ashwin on Sarfaraz Khan: Sarfaraz Khan has been in excellent form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and now the Vijay Hazare Trophy. On Wednesday, he smashed a blistering 157 runs off just 75 balls against Goa. Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin has also become a fan of his batting. Ashwin urged CSK to include him in the playing eleven or play him as an impact player.
Sarfaraz Khan performed remarkably well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match versus Goa on Wednesday. Batting at no. 4, Sarfaraz scored an unbelievable 157 off 75 balls, including 9 fours and 14 sixes. The knock helped Mumbai secure a thumping victory by 87 runs. This match performance has also proven the value of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) pick of Sarfaraz in the IPL 2026 auction at the base price of ₹75 lakhs.
His performance in the match against Goa was so impressive that ex-Indian cricketer R Ashwin asked the Chennai Super Kings to give him chances in the playing eleven or as an impact player in view of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches and the current matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ashwin stated that the 28-year-old could prove to be a major asset for CSK in the upcoming season due to his batting form.

Ashwin tweeted, "100*(47), 52(40), 64(25), 73(22) in SMAT. That form continued unabated in the Hazare Trophy, where after a score of 55(49), he scored a brilliant 157(75) with 14 sixes today." It's particularly impressive how he smashes spin bowlers in the middle overs with his sweeps and slog sweeps. 'Avan kadhava thattala, idichi odachitu irukan.' (He's not knocking the door down, he's breaking it down.)
CSK should definitely capitalize on his excellent form by including him in the playing XI. The Yellow Jackets have a real batting shortage this season! Can't wait for IPL 2026!
It's worth noting that in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in early 2025, Sarfaraz Khan scored 329 runs in seven matches at an average of 65.80 and a strike rate of 203.08. It was after his performance in that tournament that CSK acquired him in the IPL 2026 auction.
