The Legion of Honour: Famous author and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor received the Legion of Honour, France's highest civilian decoration, on Tuesday. Gerard Larcher, the president of the French Senate, gave Tharoor the award at the French Embassy. Although the French government had stated that Tharoor would receive the award in August 2022, it was presented to him on Tuesday.

The French Embassy said in a statement that Dr Tharoor has been given this honour for his tireless efforts to strengthen India-France relations, his commitment to international peace and cooperation and as a friend of France. Tharoor said he felt extremely honoured to accept the honour.
Shashi Tharoor said, "As a person who admires France, its people, their language and their culture, especially their literature and cinema, I am deeply grateful to be honoured with your country's highest civilian honour. "
