In a groundbreaking move, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has announced that his latest blockbuster, Sitaare Zameen Par, will bypass traditional streaming platforms and premiere on YouTube Movies-on-Demand starting August 1, 2025. This bold decision aims to make the film accessible to global audiences at an affordable price, setting a new precedent for film distribution. Priced at ₹100 in India and with localized pricing in 38 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, the film will offer subtitles and dubs to reach diverse viewers. This strategic shift highlights Khan’s vision to democratize cinema and bring heartfelt stories directly to audiences worldwide.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna and written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The film, a comedy-drama remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, stars Khan and Genelia Deshmukh alongside ten debutant actors with intellectual disabilities. It follows a disillusioned basketball coach tasked with training a team of neurodivergent players, delivering a powerful message of inclusion, empathy, and transformation. The film’s theatrical run, starting June 20, 2025, grossed over ₹260 crore worldwide, making it one of the year’s top Hindi films. Its heartwarming narrative and strong performances have earned critical praise, with reviewers noting its feel-good appeal despite comparisons to its predecessor.

Khan’s decision to release the film on YouTube under a pay-per-view model reflects his commitment to making cinema accessible to those unable to visit theaters due to geographical or other constraints. “For the past 15 years, I’ve been struggling with how to reach audiences who can’t access theaters,” Khan said at a Mumbai press conference. He credited India’s advancements in digital payments, internet penetration, and YouTube’s widespread availability for enabling this innovative approach. “My dream is that cinema reaches everyone at an affordable price, allowing people to watch when and where they want,” he added, emphasizing the potential for this model to empower new filmmakers by breaking down distribution barriers.
