Supreme Court: DRI issues petition in Supreme Court in coal import case; Hearing will be held in February

The Supreme Court will hear the petition of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in the coal import case in February next year. The petition challenges the 2019 order of the Bombay High Court. The High Court had quashed letters rogatory sent to Singapore and other countries in connection with the investigation involving Adani Group companies for alleged overvaluation of coal imported from Indonesia.

Hearing the DRI's appeal, the top court took note of the Additional Solicitor General's submissions that certain questions have been decided in another case.

Some of them will be relevant while deciding this appeal against the order of the High Court in this case. A bench of Justice AS Oka and Justice Pankaj Mittal ordered on October 10 that both cases will be heard together on February 6, 2024.

It is noteworthy that a bench headed by the then Chief Justice SA Bobde had issued notices to Adani Enterprises Limited and others on the appeal filed by DRI in January 2020. The bench had stayed the implementation of the High Court order till further orders.
