Both PV Sindhu and Tanvi Sharma put up splendid performances in the women's singles tournament in the Australian Badminton Open 2026 on Thursday. PV Sindhu emerged victorious over her compatriot and world No. 39 Israni Barua with scores of 22-20, 21-12 in their encounter. In the first set, the Indian, who is ranked third, struggled hard with Israni; however, she dominated the second one. The match between the two lasted for 42 minutes. This time PV Sindhu, who is a two-time Olympic medalist, will be playing against Chen Su-Yu of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

In an all-Indian encounter, 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma won against her senior player Malvika Bansod with scores of 21-13, 21-15. With this victory, Tanvi achieved her second quarterfinal of the year. Now Tanvi will play against Japanese player Akane Yamaguchi, the three-time world champion and top-seeded player in the quarters.

In another match, Tanya Hemanth lost 12-21, 15-21 to second seed and world No. 8 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand, ending her campaign. However, in the men's doubles, the pair of M.R.
