DPL 2026: Yash Dhull Praises Ranjan After Delhi Kings Win

NEW DELHI — Central Delhi Kings captain Yash Dhull commended North Delhi Strikers skipper Sarthak Ranjan for his character and sportsmanship following an intense Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026 encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.

Despite the high-stakes atmospheric rivalry on the field, Dhull highlighted the mutual respect existing between the two leaders after Central Delhi Kings sealed an emphatic eight-wicket victory over North Delhi Strikers.

"Sarthak is a very good person. We celebrated the win, but he remains a great individual, and I hold immense respect for him," Dhull stated in the post-match press briefing.

Powerplay Blitzkrieg Decides Contest

Central Delhi’s triumph was anchored by a ruthless top-order assault during their pursuit of a 151-run target. The Kings chased down the score in just 9.3 overs, propelled by a staggering 140-run opening stand off merely 45 deliveries between Dhull and Siddharth Joon.

Dhull set the tone early, blistering 69 runs from 24 balls, while Joon matched the intensity with a 24-ball 76. The opening pair elevated Central Delhi to 112 runs within the mandatory six-over powerplay—effectively closing out the contest before the midpoint of the innings.

Addressing the team's tactical approach on a surface that offered equal balance initially, Dhull emphasized that aggressive intent dictated their game plan:

"Our strategy was to capitalize fully on the powerplay because a 150-run chase can turn quickly if allowed to drag out. The pitch condition remained standard, but our mindset was different. When you attack from the opening ball, it forces the bowler out of their operational rhythm and disrupts line and length."

Dhull also lauded Joon’s strokeplay, expressing confidence in the young opener's ability to anchor the top order going forward:

"Siddharth possesses a complete range of shots. I want him to maintain this form and step up to take full ownership of the innings whenever needed."

Clinical Bowling Setup

Earlier in the evening, Central Delhi’s bowling unit established complete control over the North Delhi Strikers’ lineup, restricting them to 150/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Leg-spinner Tejas Baroka led the economical containment with figures of 2/17, while support spells from Gavnish Khurana, Aatrey Tripathi, and Abhishek Kumar Yadav yielded two wickets apiece to stymie North Delhi's middle-order partnerships.

"Our execution across both departments was synchronized today," Dhull noted. "The bowlers set up the game effectively, and the batters executed the plan. The objective now is to sustain this operational standard throughout the upcoming fixtures."

Adapting Formats and Professional Outlook

Reflecting on the technical adjustments required between multi-day red-ball fixtures and high-tempo white-ball formats like the DPL, the former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain highlighted mental adaptability nurtured through domestic pipelines:

"Mental preparation dictates how quickly you adapt between red-ball and white-ball formats. Fast-switching modules are deeply ingrained within the National Cricket Academy (NCA) setup. My focus remains grounded on the immediate match at hand rather than long-term projections. Every opportunity to play at this level is valuable, and my role is simply to deliver whenever I step onto the field."
