Key Highlights

  • Likely visit: PM Narendra Modi is likely to attend Dussehra celebrations at IP Extension in East Delhi on Tuesday, October 20, sources said.
  • Preparations on: Elaborate arrangements are being made for the Prime Minister’s expected participation.
  • Last year washed out: His 2025 visit to the Patparganj Dussehra event was cancelled due to heavy rain.
  • Past venues: Red Fort’s Parade Ground (2024), Dwarka Sector 10 (2023, 2019) and Kullu (2022).
  • Anti-drug message: Amit Shah will attend Ravana Dahan in Ludhiana, where an effigy symbolising drug abuse will also be burnt.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the grand Dussehra celebrations at IP Extension in East Delhi on Tuesday, October 20, according to sources. Elaborate arrangements are underway to ensure the smooth conduct of the event ahead of his expected participation.

Dussehra, celebrated across the country with devotion and enthusiasm, marks the victory of good over evil. The highlight of the festival is the burning of Ravana’s effigy, known as Ravan Dahan.

Last Year’s Visit Was Rained Out

If the visit goes ahead, it will also make up for last year’s disappointment. In 2025, the Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to the Dussehra event at Patparganj in East Delhi on October 2 was cancelled because of heavy rainfall. IP Extension lies in the same part of the city, giving East Delhi residents another chance to host the Prime Minister.
