Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday stressed the need to maintain the traditions of the armed forces while embracing innovation. He said that there should be a balance between the two.

Addressing the joint graduation parade at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal near Hyderabad, the Defense Minister said that if we only follow traditional values, we will remain like a still lake. We have to become like the flow of a flowing river. For this, we will have to adopt new changes along with traditional values. He said, to keep flying and touch greater heights, but remain connected to the ground.

Rajnath Singh said traditions are important in the armed forces because they have stood the test of time. They have served important purposes for a long time. Therefore it is important to give due importance to traditions. If we follow traditions without thinking, our system will naturally stagnate. He stressed the importance of innovation in the changing circumstances of the world. Singh also called upon the newly appointed flying officers to always maintain their new thinking and ideology.

Earlier, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary welcomed the Defense Minister. A total of 213 flight cadets, including 25 women, were commissioned into various branches of the Indian Air Force on completion of their training. Eight officers from the Indian Navy, nine from the Indian Coast Guard, and two from friendly countries were also awarded wings after completion of their flying training. The highlight of the parade was the commissioning ceremony, in which the graduating flight cadets were awarded their stripes by the Defense Minister.
