Kanchana Moitra starrer ‘Kapal’ set for 19 Sept release
Emotional drama ‘Kapal’ starring Kanchana Moitra hits theatres on 19 Sept 2025.

Kolkata | 23 August 2025 : The emotional depth of rural life meets the chaos of sudden fortune in Kapal, the upcoming Bengali drama film set for theatrical release on 19th September 2025. Directed by Suvendu Ghosh and produced by Arryan Ghosh under the banner of SGF (Suvendu Ghosh Films), the film’s trailer was officially unveiled today, giving audiences a stirring glimpse of the emotional rollercoaster that awaits. Distribution will be handled by Piyali Films Kolkata.
Kapal stars Raja Sarkar, Sukanya Dutta, and seasoned actress Kanchana Moitra in pivotal roles. The poster captures a moving image — the two lead characters embracing amid a rain of currency notes and a ₹10 crore symbolic coin — visually encapsulating the film’s central theme: how unexpected wealth can turn a life upside down.
At the heart of Kapal is the story of Kanai Majhi, a humble Toto driver from a remote Bengal village. His life, marked by simplicity and dedication to his family, takes a drastic turn when he wins an enormous lottery prize. The windfall, meant to be a blessing, soon unleashes chaos. Opportunists, politicians, agents, and even long-lost acquaintances descend upon his modest world, threatening his values and unsettling the peace of his household.
The film examines this upheaval not just through the lens of materialism, but also with emotional and social sensitivity. It explores the human cost of sudden fortune — the paranoia, broken trust, and erosion of relationships that often follow.
Director Suvendu Ghosh, who also co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues alongside Rashi Iqbal and Sayantan Roy, crafts a story deeply rooted in the socio-cultural fabric of Bengal. Producer Arryan Ghosh brings the story to life through the SGF banner, known for supporting authentic and emotionally rich cinema.
The technical team behind Kapal is equally commendable. Arabanda Narayan Dolai’s cinematography captures the rustic essence and shifting moods of the narrative, while Raj Singh Sidhu’s editing ensures tight storytelling.
The film's soundtrack adds another layer of emotional resonance, with music composed by Pandit Pinaki Bose and Bob Sn. The lyrics, penned by Bob Sn and Smarajit Bandyopadhyay, echo the emotional beats of the storyline. Bob Sn also scores the background music, enhancing key moments with subtle intensity. Costume designer Poulaami Panja contributes significantly to the film’s visual authenticity.
With its strong performances, realistic portrayal, and emotionally charged narrative, Kapal is set to offer audiences a compelling viewing experience. The film doesn’t just tell a story of rags to riches — it questions what we truly value and how external change tests inner strength.
