Pakistan Cricket Board Acts Against Naseem Shah Over Alleged Contract Violation
PCB notice to Naseem Shah: The PCB has issued a show-cause notice to Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah, accusing him of violating his central contract. This matter relates to his criticism of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Pakistan’s fast bowler Naseem Shah has been served a show-cause notice by the Pakistan Cricket Board for allegedly violating the terms and conditions of the central contract. It is reported that Naseem Shah allegedly criticized Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Naseem Shah, who will be playing for Rawalpindi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026), was seen making light of Nawaz before the opening match of the PSL 2026 on Thursday.
The PSL 2026 is taking place without fans in attendance at the stadiums across the country. However, many prominent figures were present at the opening match of the PSL 2026 between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium. Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and aunt of current prime minister Shahbaz Sharif, arrived at the stadium in a long convoy of cars.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Naseem Shah's account quoted a post from the PCB's media account, questioning why she was being treated like a queen at Lord's. However, the post was deleted minutes later. The fast bowler subsequently stated that his account had been hacked and recovered it a few hours later.

Naseem's tweets angered the PCB and issued a statement stating that Shah had violated his contract, as well as its media policy and regulations. The Pakistan board also stated that final disciplinary action would be decided only after Naseem responds. However, the board did not specify which rule Naseem violated.
According to the report, this appears to be related to Rule 2.23 of the PCB's Code of Conduct. This rule states that any public criticism of, or inappropriate comments about, the Board, any of its officials or sponsors, or policies, the ICC or any of its officials or sponsors, players, player support personnel, or match officials (including umpires and match referees), regardless of when such criticism or comments were made, is not permitted.
Over the past few years, the PCB has taken a strict stance against any form of political expression. Last year, all-rounder Aamir Jamal was fined over ₹1 million for displaying a slogan expressing support for former Prime Minister and Pakistan captain Imran Khan. Jamal appeared at a training session during the Test series against England wearing '804' written under his floppy cap. It's worth noting that this number is Imran's prison number. He has been imprisoned since August 2023.
