Popular social media website Reddit on Tuesday launched its AI-driven translation feature in India. As a part of this new feature, users can now read Reddit postings by having them translated into Hindi. The firm added that Bengali language would also be introduced on the website in a couple of months' time.
Reddit has hitherto been an English-speaking platform, but now the firm has launched a machine learning technology-based translation feature to reach more users in a country where several languages spoken include Hindi, the most widely used language of the country, spoken by approximately 52.83 crores i.e. 43.63% of country's entire population speaks Hindi.
According to Reddit, this translation feature will allow users to automatically translate posts and comments. Users can now post in any language, if Reddit supports that language, then the translation will be done automatically in the user's chosen language. For example, if a user posts in English but the default language for you is Hindi, Reddit will show that post in Hindi.
On the Reddit app (Android, iPhone and website), users will now see a new button called "Translate" above the post. By tapping on it, users will be able to see the entire feed in Hindi. Also, there will be an option of "Original Language View", so that you can see the post in the original language as well. Earlier, last week, Reddit launched another new feature AI Answers in India. This AI-powered tool helps users find fast and accurate information on the platform.
